Marble column pieces journey from the deep to Bodrum museum

First located by the Texas university’s Institute of Nautical Archaeology and Bodrum Museum survey teams in the early 90s, a shipwreck site near the Çeşme peninsula was immediately marked as unique. Recently, three marble column pieces were raised to the surface after more than 2,000 years underwater and delivered to the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology

Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Zergun Korutürk was appointed as the new ambassador after Turkey's Ambassador to Stockholm Necip Ergüz's term in office has expired.

Turkish parents say computers important for children

Turkish families believe computers are very important to their children's development and future career potential, an Intel survey suggests.

Intel released this week the results of its survey of 5,220 parents in 11 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa on familial views on child computer usage, providing intriguing insights into the changing place of the computer in households. The results of the survey, conducted by Redshift Research amongst parents with at least a passing familiarity with computing, suggest that parents across these regions attach importance to their children learning to use computers both in terms of child development and occupational potential.

Number of foreign businesses in Turkey hits 22,505 in June

The number of foreign companies operating in Turkey reached 22,505 in June, Treasury Undersecretariat data have shown.

Of the 22,505 foreign businesses in Turkey, 17,725 were newly established, while 4,216 are subsidiaries of other companies and 564 are branches of international firms. Some 54.7 percent -- 12,312 -- of all foreign firms in the country are from European Union.

Five Turkish movies headed for Montreal World Film Festival

Three more Turkish films have been added to the lineup of this year's Montreal World Film Festival, raising the total number of Turkish movies in the festival to five.

Young filmmaker Atıl İnaç's sophomore feature "Büyük Oyun" (A Step Into the Darkness), Bahadır Karataş's Turkish-Bosnian co-production "Usta" (The Master) and Ümit Ünal's fourth feature-directing effort, "Gölgesizler" (The Shadowless), have been added to the festival's Focus On World Cinema program, the organizers announced this week.

The Antalya Golden Orange International Film Festival is now accepting competition applications. The 46th year of the festival, organized by the Antalya Foundation for Culture and Arts with support from Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, will be held from Oct. 10 to 17.
